On May 8, 2026, an international delegation of 28 participants from 17 countries—including Armenia, Indonesia, Nigeria, and El Salvador—visited Renu Nakhon District, Nakhon Phanom Province. The visit focused on the intersection of ancient cultural heritage and community-driven development.
The journey began at the Mae Thong Yaem Rice Wine Production Centre, where the group explored the traditional knowledge of the Phu Thai people. "Lao-U" (Jar Rice Wine) is far more than a local beverage; it represents an ancestral technique of food preservation and serves as a vital symbol of hospitality and communal gathering.
To see how this heritage is preserved for the future, the participants visited Renu Nakhon Wittayanukul School. Here, they learned about the vital role education plays in ethnic preservation. The group interacted with teachers and students through classroom activities and witnessed vibrant Phu Thai musical and dance performances, showcasing the warmth and joyful nature of the community.
This activity is a key component of the Annual International Training Course (AITC) titled “Empowering Communities for Inclusive Development through SEP for SDGs.” The program is led by Dr. Titipol Phakdeewanich and his team from the Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University, with the generous support of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, running from May 1–15, 2026.
