โครงการฝึกอบรมนานาชาติประจำปี (AITC) เรื่อง “Empowering Communities for Inclusive Development through SEP for SDGs: Lessons from Community-Based Participatory Research and Community-Driven Development in Thai Isan Villages” ดำเนินการโดยคณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยอุบลราชธานี โดยได้รับการสนับสนุนจากสำนักงานความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนาระหว่างประเทศ (Thailand International Cooperation Agency: TICA) กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ระหว่างวันที่ 1–15 พฤษภาคม 2569
Dr Titipol Phakdeewanich, Project Director of the Annual International Training Course (AITC) entitled “Empowering Communities for Inclusive Development through SEP for SDGs: Lessons from Community-Based Participatory Research and Community-Driven Development in Thai Isan Villages”, led his team from the Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University, together with a group of 28 participants from 17 countries, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Samoa, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Uzbekistan, to discuss the importance of community empowerment in relation to the establishment and success of community enterprises in Khemmarat District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, on the morning of 10 May 2026.
The visit began with discussions on cotton production at Huean Chu Hak, which was originally established as a group of local women seeking to preserve Isan and Thai traditional dance performances before later developing into a centre for cotton production, community-based textile activities, snacks made from Thai rice, and other local products, while Isan and Thai traditional dance performances remain an important element of the group’s activities.
Huean Chu Hak is recognised as one of the most successful community enterprises in the area and reflects the concept of “community enterprise”, introduced by the Thai government in 2005, referring to community-based activities relating to the production of goods, the provision of services, or other activities undertaken by groups of individuals who share social connections and a common way of life, in order to generate income and promote self-reliance for families and communities.
As a community enterprise, Huean Chu Hak emphasises the importance of local knowledge and wisdom in its production processes, generating additional income for households within the community. This contributes towards strengthening self-reliance, improving local economic resilience, and preparing communities for both domestic and international economic competition.
The group also had lunch at Goose Farm Stay in Khemmarat District in order to experience aspects of Isan local life and culinary culture, reflecting how local families in the region traditionally share meals and spend time together within the community.
The Annual International Training Course (AITC), entitled “Empowering Communities for Inclusive Development through SEP for SDGs: Lessons from Community-Based Participatory Research and Community-Driven Development in Thai Isan Villages”, is being implemented with the generous support of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is being held from 1–15 May 2026.
