Dr Titipol Phakdeewanich led a study visit with students from the Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University, to the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The group received a warm welcome from H.E. Ms Busadee Santipitaks, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MRC Secretariat, and attended a briefing on the development and key functions of the MRC.
The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the MRC’s role in promoting sustainability, prosperity, and resilience in the Mekong River Basin through regional cooperation and innovation. This experience was particularly meaningful, as the Mekong River is not only a natural boundary between Thailand and Lao PDR but also an integral part of the livelihoods, culture, and development of the people of Ubon Ratchathani Province.
The students then attended a lecture on Lao foreign policy delivered by the Institute of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR, and had the opportunity to exchange ideas.
The visit also included discussions on academic collaboration and student internship opportunities with both the Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRC) and the Institute of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR.
The activities aimed to inspire the next generation to engage in regional cooperation for a shared and sustainable future of the Mekong River Basin.
