[English below] เมื่อวันที่ 4 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2569 ภาควิชาการเมืองและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ คณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยอุบลราชธานี ได้นำนักศึกษาเข้าศึกษาดูงาน ณ สถานเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศไทย กรุงเทพมหานคร เพื่อเรียนรู้และทำความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับพัฒนาการของความสัมพันธ์ไทย–สหรัฐอเมริกา บทบาทของการทูต ตลอดจนความร่วมมือระหว่างสองประเทศในมิติต่าง ๆ

ในการบรรยายครั้งนี้ ผู้แทนจากสถานเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาได้อธิบายถึงประวัติศาสตร์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างไทยและสหรัฐอเมริกาที่ดำเนินมาอย่างยาวนาน โดยมีพัฒนาการสำคัญตั้งแต่การติดต่อระหว่างสองประเทศในช่วงต้นคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 19 และการลงนาม สนธิสัญญาไมตรีและพาณิชย์ในปี ค.ศ. 1833 ซึ่งถือเป็นหนึ่งในสนธิสัญญาระหว่างประเทศฉบับแรกของสหรัฐอเมริกาในภูมิภาคเอเชีย ภายหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง ความสัมพันธ์ไทย–สหรัฐอเมริกาได้พัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยมีการลงนามข้อตกลงความร่วมมือด้านการศึกษา วัฒนธรรม และเศรษฐกิจใน ปี ค.ศ. 1950 ตลอดจนความร่วมมือด้านการค้าและการลงทุน เช่น กรอบความตกลงการค้าและการลงทุน (TIFA) ในปี ค.ศ. 2002 และการยกระดับความร่วมมือเชิงยุทธศาสตร์ระหว่างสองประเทศใน ปี ค.ศ. 2022 นอกจากนี้ ยังมีการนำเสนอแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับโครงการ “Freedom 250” ซึ่งเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองวาระครบรอบ 250 ปีแห่งการประกาศอิสรภาพของสหรัฐอเมริกาในปี ค.ศ. 2026 โดยมุ่งเน้นการส่งเสริมคุณค่าพื้นฐานของสหรัฐอเมริกา อาทิ เสรีภาพ ประชาธิปไตย ความเป็นพลเมือง และความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศ

นอกจากนี้ นักศึกษายังได้มีโอกาสร่วมกิจกรรมแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นและซักถามกับเจ้าหน้าที่ของสถานเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาเกี่ยวกับบทบาทของการทูตสมัยใหม่ ความร่วมมือไทย–สหรัฐอเมริกาในด้านต่าง ๆ รวมถึงโอกาสทางการศึกษาและการแลกเปลี่ยนระหว่างประเทศ ซึ่งช่วยให้นักศึกษาได้เรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์จริงของนักการทูตและผู้ปฏิบัติงานด้านความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ

กิจกรรมดังกล่าวนับเป็นโอกาสสำคัญในการเสริมสร้างความรู้และประสบการณ์ด้านความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศให้แก่นักศึกษา อีกทั้งยังช่วยเปิดมุมมองต่อบทบาทของการทูตและความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศในบริบทของโลกปัจจุบัน อันจะเป็นพื้นฐานสำคัญต่อการพัฒนาศักยภาพของนักศึกษาในสาขาการเมืองและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ คณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยอุบลราชธานี ต่อไปในอนาคต

On 4 March 2026, the Department of Politics and International Relations, Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University, led a group of students on an academic visit to the Embassy of the United States, Bangkok. The visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the development of Thai–United States relations, the role of diplomacy, and the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

During the briefing session, representatives of the U.S. Embassy outlined the long-standing historical ties between Thailand and the United States. Particular attention was given to the early contacts between the two nations in the early nineteenth century and the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1833, regarded as one of the first international treaties concluded by the United States in Asia. Following the Second World War, Thai–U.S. relations continued to develop steadily, marked by agreements on educational, cultural, and economic cooperation in 1950, as well as ongoing collaboration in trade and investment. Notable frameworks include the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) in 2002 and the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Alliance in 2022.

The session also introduced the concept of “Freedom 250”, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence in 2026. The initiative emphasises core American values, including liberty, democracy, citizenship, and international cooperation.

In addition, students participated in a lively discussion and question-and-answer session with Embassy officials on contemporary diplomacy, various dimensions of Thai–U.S. cooperation, and opportunities for education and international exchange. This interactive engagement enabled students to gain first-hand insights from diplomatic practitioners and professionals in the field of international relations.

The visit represented a valuable opportunity to strengthen students’ academic knowledge and practical understanding of international relations. It also broadened their perspectives on diplomacy and international cooperation in the contemporary global context, providing an important foundation for the continued development of students in the fields of Politics and International Relations at the Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University.
